Barbara Kremer

Watercolor Artist

Artist Biography

Barbara Kremer, a former school director and college teacher, is an award-winning watercolor artist who primarily paints landscapes of the New England area. Although she had always loved teaching, painting became her passion from the moment she picked up paint and brush.

She has studied with several nationally recognized artists including Thomas Wells Schaller, Alvaro Castagnet, Gary Tucker, Paul George, and the late Tom Sutherland, her teacher and mentor. Barbara paints year-round but is a three-season plein air painter. "The challenge of painting en plein air is both creatively and emotionally inspiring and allows me to enter a zone where I become totally immersed in nature, the environment, and my painting." Her watercolors have a strong sense of light and dark with a freedom that translates into a feeling of spontaneity in her work.

Over the past few years, she has exhibited in many juried and regional shows and has won numerous awards including Best in Show, Best in Watercolor, First Place, and Second Place. Over the years, she has been invited and exhibited as a featured artist at the Laura Coombs-Hill Gallery in Newburyport, MA. Her watercolors hang in private collections in Massachusetts and New York, and corporate offices in Boston. She is a member of North Shore Arts Association where she was elected as an Artist Member, Newburyport Art Association, Rockport Art Association, and Peabody Art Association. She is also an active painting member of Boston North Artists.
